Hansrudolf Schmid

Hansrudolf Schmid is the founder and president of HSZ Group. After an education in law he pursued his career in finance, covering investment banking, private banking and investment management, first in New York followed by Zurich and Hong Kong.

Since 2000, Mr. Schmid has been leading HSZ Group an investment management company specialising in listed Asian equities. From 1993 to 2000, Mr. Schmid was a member of the executive committee of HSBC Guyerzeller Bank AG in Zurich. He was responsible for the bank’s strategic equities group that he established. From 1989 to 1992, Mr. Schmid was a partner of BZ Group in Zurich. He contributed to the development of BZ Trust, the asset management arm of BZ Group. From 1987 to 1988, he was with the investment banking department of Salomon Brothers Inc in New York as an associate in corporate finance and mergers & acquisitions. Prior to this he practised law in a Basel law firm and was a clerk to a cantonal court. Mr. Schmid also serves on the following boards: Fajos Turizm Teleferik (Kemer Antalya, Turkey), Perutil S.A. (Panama) and Golien Limited (Hong Kong). From 2001 until his move to Hong Kong in 2006, Mr. Schmid also served on the board of the Harvard Club of Switzerland in Zurich.

After his studies at the universities of Basel and Geneva, Mr. Schmid graduated from the University of Basel with a law degree magna cum laude in 1981 and received his Ph.D. in 1987. From 1985 to 1986, he pursued postgraduate studies under a Fulbright scholarship at Georgetown University and Harvard Law School, where he received a Master of Laws (LL.M.) degree and was awarded the Addison Brown Prize 1986.

Mr. Schmid is a Swiss citizen residing in Hong Kong. He is married and has three children.
